Shida Studio is a small team of designers and web developers with over thirty years of combined experience, and Kenji Doshida, who started the studio, still manages the projects himself, so the person you talk to at the beginning is the one looking after your project at the end.

Why work with a studio
A single freelancer can be a good fit for a one off piece. A studio earns its place when the work keeps coming, because there's more than one designer who knows your brand, somebody to cover a holiday or a busy week, and web developers in the same team when the brochure needs to become a web page. Most of our clients come back to us, which is the part of the business we're proudest of.

How a project usually runs
It starts with a short conversation about what the piece is for and when it has to be ready, because those two answers shape everything after them. We come back with a first design, you tell us what's working and what isn't, and we refine it with you until it's right. Once it's approved we prepare the final files for wherever it's going, whether that's a printer or a website, and the files are named clearly so your team knows what goes where.

Who we usually work with
A lot of our work is for home builders and land developers in and around Calgary, which means brochures and lot maps, showhome signage and the advertising that goes with a new community. The rest comes from businesses and organisations across western Canada that want their design done properly, from a western Canadian loyalty program to a seed company that has been selling to home gardeners since the eighties.

What people ask us
How much does a graphic designer cost in Calgary?
It depends on the piece and how much of it already exists. A one page sales sheet built on your existing brand is a much smaller job than a new logo with guidelines, so we'd rather hear what you need and give you a real number than quote a range that doesn't help you.
Can you work with the brand we already have?
Yes, and most of our work starts that way. Send us your logo files and anything you've printed recently and we'll match it. If your brand has never been written down, we can set out the colours and type properly while we're at it.
Do I need to come into the studio?
You don't need to. Plenty of projects run entirely by email and phone, and the files are sent to you when they're done. If you would rather meet in person, the studio is in Calgary and open Monday to Friday, nine to five.
How quickly can you turn something around?
A single print piece is often a few days once we have the content. A brand or a website takes weeks, and the real answer depends on how quickly feedback comes back. We will give you a date at the start and tell you straight away if anything puts it at risk.
Do you print as well?
We design the work and prepare print ready files, and your printer or sign shop produces them. If you don't have one, we can suggest Calgary shops that our other clients use.
