Community maps and lot maps for Calgary developments

01 / In short

Somebody looking at a new community in Calgary wants to know two things: where is it, and what is left. A map answers both faster than a page of text, which is why every sales centre has one at the door.

We draw those maps. They start from the engineering plan, get coloured by builder and phase, and end up on the entrance sign, in the brochure and on the sales sheet, all from the same artwork.

A community map shows where a new Calgary development sits and how it is laid out. A lot map goes further and shows every lot, its number, its frontage and which builder holds it, which is what a sales centre needs at the entrance, in the brochure and on the sales sheet.

02 / What we do

What a lot map has to carry

A lot map is used by a buyer standing in front of it and by a salesperson on the phone. It has to work for both.

  • 01Every lot numbered, straight from the plan rather than retyped
  • 02Each lot coloured to the builder who holds it
  • 03Phases marked the way your sales team already talks about them
  • 04Frontages shown where buyers ask about them
  • 05Legend, north arrow and scale, so it reads as a map and not a diagram

03 / What we do

Kept current as phases release

A map is out of date the moment a phase releases or a builder changes. Redrawing it from scratch every time is what makes people avoid updating it, so we set it up to be changed.

  • 01A release or a builder change updated without starting again
  • 02The sign, the brochure and the sales sheet updated from the same file
  • 03Older versions kept, so you can see what the map said in a given month

04 / What we do

The same map, in every place it is needed

One drawing feeds the entrance sign, the hoarding panel, the brochure, the showhome sales sheet and the website. That is the point of drawing it properly once. It also means the map a buyer photographs at the site is the map they find again online.

05 / What we do

Looking for a map of Calgary communities?

If you are a buyer rather than a builder, the City of Calgary publishes community boundaries and profiles, and the builders developing each new community publish their own maps of what is available. We are the studio that draws those maps for the builders, so we are not the right place to look up your own neighbourhood. If you are a builder or a developer and need one drawn, that is exactly what we do.

Questions

What people ask us

Can you work from our engineering plan?

Yes, and that is the cleanest start. A PDF of the civil drawing gives us the lot lines, numbers and phases directly, so nothing gets retyped and nothing gets a digit wrong.

How long does a first lot map take?

It depends on the plan. A clean drawing with lot numbers on it is much faster than a scan of a printed one. We will look at what you have and give you a date before you commit to one.

What happens when a phase releases?

Send us the change and we update the map. Because it is built to be changed rather than redrawn, the update is a small job, and everything that uses the map updates with it.

Can the map go on our website as well as the sign?

Yes. The same artwork can be exported for print and for the web. If you want the online version to do more than sit there as an image, that is a bigger conversation and worth having.

Do you only work on new communities?

No. Event maps, site maps and wayfinding come from the same work. New community lot maps are just the most common request.
